Girls’ tennis places second at NorCals and CCS; Monta Vista edges out Falcons twice

Reaching the finals of the NorCals tournament on Nov. 19, the girls’ tennis team lost for the fourth time this season to rival Monta Vista, but this time they were close—so close—to victory.

The girls' tennis team beat Archbishop Mitty 5-2 in the CCS semifinal round on Nov. 15 at Courtside Club, securing themselves a slot into the final round of CCS playoffs and boosting their record to 21-0.

All three doubles teams won fairly easily in straight sets against the same teams they played in the Fresno Peachtree tournament at the beginning of the season in September. No. 4 singles player freshman Kalyani Narayan gave the team the necessary fourth match with a victory of 6-4, 6-2 over her opponent.

Boys' tennis falls to Menlo in CCS finals

With the promise of a victory over arch-rival and undefeated Menlo hovering just a racquet's length away, the boys' tennis team fell just short amidst a perfect storm of injuries in the finals of CCS, held at the Los Gatos Courtside Club on May 14.

Disaster struck the Falcons as they were leading the Knights 3-2 in the best of seven contest. As the remaining two matches both went into third sets, players John Lamble and Andrew Hsieh both began cramping badly.

CCS run for girls' soccer ends in quarterfinals

The girls' soccer team had one goal for this season: to improve from last year. Not only has the team accomplished this goal, but they have exceeded it by making it all the way to the CCS quarterfinals.

Saratoga, ranked lowest in CCS, lost a close quarterfinal game to No. 1 ranked Scotts Valley on Feb. 27. The teams tied 0-0 in regulation play, and the score remained tied throughout overtime. The game went to penalty kicks, and since Scotts Valley scored all five of its penalty kicks, one more than Saratoga, they moved on the semi-finals.

Girls’ basketball: Bring on CCS

The girls’ basketball team has faced numerous challenges over the course of the season, one being the lack of veteran players on the team. Nevertheless, the Falcons have managed to consistently perform well.

Field hockey: Girls lose to Lancers

Going into the Nov. 12 CCS quarterfinal match against St. Francis, field hockey players knew they would have to play a near-perfect game to beat the No. 2-seeded Lancers.

2010 boys' tennis team sets the bar high

Throughout the school’s long history, there have been few sports teams that have achieved the level of success that the 2010 boys’ varsity tennis team enjoyed. At the end of the terrific season, the team finished at second in the entire nation, behind only Menlo School in Atherton.

Girls’ Golf: Falcons fly high, with three players making it to CCS

The girls’ golf team turned a rebuilding season into a winning one, a positive experience for not only the veterans but also the rookies. After romping through the league tournament on Oct. 26 and claiming second place, the Falcons sent three players to CCS, all of whom will return to the team next year.

Boys’ cross country: runners make State

With a solid group of freshmen who have had great success filling the roles of last year’s seniors, the boys’ cross country team found success this season along with great results at CCS and a berth in state competition.
