Hipsters and non-hipsters alike indulged in a night of caffeine and music during a Coffeehouse performance that featured teenage singers on Oct. 3 at the Saratoga Library.

After the rest of the library was closed, the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) opened the community room for people to come in and enjoy their Friday evening with others in the community watching performances by other teens. Saratoga students included freshman Caitlyn Chen, sophomores Vega Bugata, Gillian Grant, Brittany Sample and Ingrid Yang, juniors Camille Bismonte, Ursula Bravo, Shreya Tumu and seniors Becky Hoag, Annie Kung, Hana Michael, Anish Ramanadham and Ananya Srivastav.

“I thought it went really well, because we had a lot of participants, and also audience,” senior TAB co-president Riddhi Sangam said.

Sangam attributed the success of the event to an increased amount of publicity due to TAB members.

“More TAB members made an effort to reach out to more people and publicize the event to get more people to join,” Sangam said.

TAB, a group of teens who organize some events at the library, advertised Coffeehouse to people in many ways, like posting about it on Facebook and putting up flyers at Saratoga High.

Many students attended the event, including junior Samantha Guidry.

“A good friend of mine was performing, and I thought I might as well as go and support her,” Guidry said.

Guidry enjoyed the event overall, because she thinks that it was a way for people to express themselves.

“It’s interesting to see what different people do, and certain people you don’t really expect to do anything run up and perform,” Guidry said. “Because of the small crowd, you see people in their natural state, so that makes it nice.”
