On the morning of April 17, over 200 people stepped out onto Joe’s Trail at Congress Park to begin the 2.5-mile Color Dash. Adults and children alike eagerly awaited the spray of colors that greeted them throughout the run.

The Color Dash was held by the Saratoga Youth Commission to provide a fun event for families to spend time together. The event was free, but attendees could buy Mexican food from a local business, Margaritas, from a food truck available after the run.

The Youth Commission views this as the one of the most successful events it has held and credits the success to their aim to involve all age groups and focus more on marketing through social media. The commission created a Facebook event, changed profile pictures, and advertised through Next Door, a community social network site.

“We worked really hard to make sure we got an early start on the event and we just promoted it as hard as we could,” commissioner Mitali Shanbhag said.

Through the event, families and friends could enjoy the warm weekend and have a fun way to exercise.

“They had a really good turnout and it was cool to see everyone having fun,” senior Luke Salin said.
