Ghost Whispers: album preview

Over the past 18 years, the British band Coldplay has become one of the most prominent bands of the current generation.

Hoping to expand its vast cache of songs, the band will release its latest album, “Ghost Whispers,” on May 19. The group revealed “Magic.” one of the new tracks, on March 3 to give listeners a taste of the new album.

The song is slower than “Paradise,” “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” and “Viva la Vida.” This is not necessarily a bad thing. Just like “Clocks” from Coldplay’s 2002 album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, “Magic” is a catchy song that anyone could enjoy. The slow yet prominent beat of the songs helps make the lyrics sound more vibrant.

Coldplay has always been about blending the sounds of pianos, guitars, drums and vocals in a package that is sublime. From every strum of the guitar to the beat of the drum, any Coldplay song is perfectly balanced to give the listener a satisfying experience.

With its prominent vocals, its enticing piano melody and its heavy bass from the drums, “Magic” continues this tradition and it's making fans happy..

“Magic has great vocals, and it is easily their best song since ‘Paradise,’” freshman Coldplay fan Samay Garg said.

The way Coldplay is heading with “Magic” promises to attract new fans and make old fans fall in love over again.

“It’s been a long time since they released [their last album] “Mylo Xyloto” — which was a great album — so I’m really hoping they can improve on that and just produce more great music,” Garg said.
