Quiz Bowl club to host first tournament

October 28, 2009 — by Girish Swaminath

The newly founded Quiz Bowl club will host its first tournament Nov. 8, and officers, such as president Vijay Menon, are excited about this milestone event in their new club.

"I am pretty happy about the fact that we are getting a tournament organized," said Menon. "We are working hard to get things done and look forward to the date."

Menon has invited other schools to participate in the competition, such as Bellarmine College Prep and Mission San Jose High.

"Our club is trying to get more people from other schools," said Menon. "However, at the moment, these are the only ones that are confirmed to participate in our tournament."

The club wants to use the proceeds from the tournament to help the team.

"Hopefully, with the money that we get, we will be able to buy new buzzers and practice questions, in order to shape up the team," said Menon.

Members of the Quiz Bowl club develop knowledge on a diverse range of topics, from pop culture to sports and take part in competitions with other schools in order to display this knowledge. During these tournaments, participants are supposed to answer as many questions correctly as possible and teams that accumulate the most points win.
