Rose Bowl concert and fundraiser held for upcoming parade

A special concert was held on March 6 in the McAfee Performing Arts Center to showcase the marching band’s skills for the upcoming Rose Bowl Parade in the fall. Attendees in included Rose Bowl council president Council Mike Matthiessen, his wife, members from the National Park Service and council members from the Rose Bowl Parade.

Eighth graders currently attending Redwood Middle School were also invited to perform at the concert since they will be attending the parade as freshmen next year. Many students playing in the concert also took pictures with Matthiessen and his wife after to commemorate this concert.

Two students, senior Joowon Lee on clarinet and junior Sophia Lin on piano, were also invited to play solo pieces.

A fundraiser at the Mynt Leaf Restaurant downtown was also held on March 7 to raise money for the band’s traveling expenses. Money was raised by parents willing to buy tickets for the 2015 Rose Bowl.

The band has started to prepare for the parade by redefining its musicality skills throughout the year to be musically prepared; however, marching coordination technique and song practice will not be held until summer.
