With every new time period comes a fashion transformation. Whether it reflects the economic standards of the people or the strife of the country, fashion is affected by its surroundings and the people who make it.

The 2000s were no exception to this as trends ranged from skinny jeans to leggings; slip-on shoes to the infamous Crocs. But when the current generation reminisces about the past 10 years, fashion will be a major component by which to judge the decade.

When most people think of overalls, they think of the strange denim jumper worn by an old farmer milking his cow with a straw hat and dirty cowboy boots… or they think of the 90s. But hey, no one ever said it was impossible for a city girl to bring back this classic look. Besides, old styles are constantly coming back: converse high tops, leg warmers, shoulder pads even crazy bell bottom jeans have found their way to Cosmo. So, I guess there’s hope for me.

I defy the fashion police (a.k.a. every teenage girl) every weekend by sporting my very own pair of dark denim overalls, chest pocket and all.

After much anticipation, the day finally arrived when 2006 SHS alumnus James Fung could see his designs as well as the clothes from other designers shown proudly on the runway. From choosing models to making promotional flyers, Fung, an architecture student at the University of Washington, worked diligently for three months to finish a 10-piece collection for a fashion show that took place on Feb. 26 at the University of Washington.
