In recent years, Monta Vista, Lynbrook, Terra Linda, Pioneer, Leland High and other nearby schools have all decided to end their first semester before winter break. Now after years of complaints from students and parents alike, it looks as if the idea has become more of a possibility here, though many hurdles remain before Saratoga and Los Gatos High Schools can make this switch.
The Falcons at first received the No. 3 seed in CCS behind Monta Vista and Mitty. They were excited about their seed due to the match up against Mitty in the semifinals.
"Our league is by far the toughest league to compete in with three out of the six teams seeded top six in CCS. No other league has as many teams capable of qualifying for CCS as ours," said head coach Tom Uyehara.
The team defeated Sacred Heart in the first round of CCS 6-1 on Nov. 11 and beat Homestead in quarterfinals 7-0 on Nov. 13.
In the last two minutes of the CCS finals last November, Los Gatos edged out Saratoga for the CCS title. This year, the Falcons are out for revenge.
There have been many changes this season, as last year’s head coach Amber Wilson recently had a baby and doesn’t have enough time to make it to every practice and game. Wilson will be the assistant coach, replaced as head coach by Saratoga and UC Berkeley alumnus, Kellie York. The girls, however, do not think this affects the team much.
Shooting 74 in the individual qualifier, sophomore No. 3 player Andrew Cho placed seventh at CCS trials on May 16 at Rancho Cañada golf course in Monterey. Senior No. 2 player J.B. Lee also represented the Falcons at the event, but did not move on to finals alongside Cho.
For seniors, Life is good. Most have picked a college, started searching for dorms, and planned their senior trips. And, for the first time, they will be taking their finals a week earlier than the rest of the school.
Seniors will all take their finals the week of June 1st —before the official finals week. The school made this decision based on the fact that seniors are in a much different atmosphere than the rest of the students this time of year.
