After losing half its members to graduation at the end of last year, the Mock Trial team has a new look this year.
It’s 9 p.m. on a Tuesday. Most of the school’s 1,392 students have gone home, as have most of the school’s 70 teachers.
But in room 408 history teacher Jeff Scott is working with 18 eager members of the mock trial team. They have already been practicing hard for two and a half hours to perfect their performances before their first competition in January.
Saturday school. Sounds depressing, doesn’t it?
It’s a dog day Thursday afternoon. The phone rings. It’s your aunt and uncle. They’re going to Thailand tomorrow. Would you like to join them?
History teacher Jeff Scott would.
This past August, Scott spent nine days in Thailand with his aunt and uncle, learning about the southeast Asian country’s culture, landmarks and people.
Second semester usually brings a few new faces to Saratoga High, but it is rare that any of those are among the faculty. That is not the case this year, however, due to the addition of new student teacher Jeff Scott, who has just taken over Rick Ellis’ third-period geography class and Mike Davey’s fourth-period World History class.
