When springtime comes, current sophomores will be faced with the dilemma of choosing which U.S. History class to take. Although the extra grade point given to students taking AP U.S. History (APUSH) may seem tempting, APUSH requires students to be very proactive and organized, according to APUSH teacher Kim Anzalone.
With the district calendar setting final exams before winter break this semester, principal Jeff Anderson hopes to give students and teachers a time to “get their batteries recharged.” In order to better help students relax during their two weeks off, Anderson has mandated teachers to avoid assigning homework over the break.

Eleven juniors received awards at the CSF Award Ceremony held on May 18. Parents and students were invited to the cafeteria at 7:30 a.m., where students were recognized for their exceptional conduct and academic excellence by various teachers, guidance counselors and administrators.
This year, with key players senior Mckenzi Crase, senior Ren Norris, junior Kari Clark and junior Courtney Brandt returning, the girls’ soccer team is confident that they will win the De Anza league and go to CCS as they did last year, despite a new coaching staff and only three returning seniors.
The unpredictable ups and downs of the stock market have left senior Michael Lin checking the quotes of his stocks constantly. With the pressure of maintaining his spot at the top of history teacher Kim Anzalone's second-period economics class, Lin has even been accused of cheating.
Freshman goalkeeper Ally Nilan-Axline started her varsity soccer career off in style. In her first regular season game, she stopped many shots from Wilcox on Jan. 7, resulting in a 1-1 tie. After playing preseason on the JV team, Nilan-Axline was given the opportunity to move up to varsity earlier that week as senior Jan Iyer recovered from an injury.
"My dad had always encouraged me to do varsity and he was really happy when I got to move up. I think this is just going to be a really good team especially since I have a great defense," said Nilan-Axline.
After a 1-0 victory over Milpitas on Feb. 6 marked the end of a tumultuous regular season for the girls’ varsity soccer team, the girls began to play a different, albeit less fun, game. They began to play the waiting game, anxiously anticipating the decision of the CCS Board as to whether or not they could qualify for the championships as a wildcard.
