Several students advanced to the state History Day competition on March 24 at the county competition. The qualifying 23 students in 11 entries will travel to Riverside during the weekend of April 27 in hopes of advancing to the national competition.

As the March 24 county History Day competition draws near, groups that advanced from the school competition are adding final touches to their entries in hopes of continuing on to the state and national levels.

“Revolution, Reaction, Reform.” The theme of the 2012 History Day competition holds promise for all participating sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Coming from their respective world history, U.S. history and government classes, students feel more prepared than in years before to place in this year’s National History Day.

Many students are unaware of the competitions and contests they can participate in, or are intimidated by them. But there is no need to worry; there is a myriad of competitions available that allow students of all talents to sharpen their skills and have fun competing with or against their classmates.

As the school year wraps up its odds and ends, Saratoga High showed off its top entries and projects at History Day and science state fairs.

This year, more students qualified for the National History Day State competition than in any previous year. The state competition, scheduled for April 30 at the DoubleTree Airport hotel in San Jose, will be showcasing 16 different entries from 31 Saratoga students.

Thirty one students from Saratoga High School have moved on from the Santa Clara County History Day that took place on March 19 to qualify for the State History Day, which will take place from April 28 to May 1.
