‘Trunk-or-Treat’ aims to foster safe trick-or-treating environment

Hoping to build upon last year’s success, the spirit commission is hosting its second annual ”Trunk-or-Treat” in an effort to continue fostering an environment in which children, mainly elementary and middle schoolers, can trick-or-treat safely.

The event, to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Halloween, is set to take place in the school’s main parking lot. Juniors and seniors volunteering for Trunk-or-Treat will decorate their cars and help pass out candy to younger trick-or-treaters participating in the event.

Senior Kaitlyn Thompson, who serves as spirit commision lead, is in charge of organizing the efforts of the spirit commision so that Trunk-or-Treat does inevitably go smoothly. 

“We basically create and order everything for the event to make sure it actually happens, and to make sure that when it does happen, it happens respectfully, fun and smoothly,” Thompson said.

In an effort to encourage more upperclassman to participate, the spirit commission is also implementing a prize for the owner of the best decorated car. 

“Primarily, it's supposed to be an event to serve the community and to provide a fun, safe night of trick or treating for the community members,” she said.

The event also serves to help upperclassmen bond, as students are encouraged to help their friends decorate their cars. Thompson’s hope is that all members of Saratoga’s community can look to Trunk-or-Treat as an outlet for good fun and just a little spookiness.

“It’s a fun event for everyone,” Thompson said. “We’re hanging out with all of our friends, passing out candy, feeling good; it’s a nice, safe, fun way to spend Halloween when college apps are due [the next day].”
