The Falcons went 2-0 on the week of Jan. 23-27, compiling wins against the the Fremont Firebirds on Jan. 25, 53-44 and the Los Altos Eagles on Jan. 27, 50-44.

The Fremont game was a “good team effort,” according to senior center James Huang. The scoring was balanced as junior forward Stevie Berman and junior shooting guard Alex Wang scored 13 and 10 points respectively. Huang added 12.

The Los Altos Eagles’ tenacity kept the game close. “They brought a lot of energy but we were able to match it and come out on top, ” junior small forward Arthur Tsao said.

According to Huang, the team sometimes finds itself in a rut when the players get down on themselves because they aren’t making shots, which then negatively affects the team’s defensive effort.

“The main thing now is for our team to come out wanting it more than the other team,” Huang said.

“When we have energy, we always play well whether or not we are making shots.”

Saratoga is now 6-1, one game into the second half of league play. Despite their single loss to Monta Vista on Jan. 20 by a score of 50-43, the Falcons have been playing strong in league, securing first place over Santa Clara, 5-2, by one and a half wins.

“I think we have a good momentum going. We’re 6-1 and, based on the last two games, we are getting back into our game after that one loss to [Monta Vista],” Huang said.

The next game on Feb.1 at Santa Clara is crucial, determining whether the Falcons will still be in the lead, or if Santa Clara ties them for first place. The Falcons have already beaten Santa Clara in a close game 60-55 on Jan. 11.
