Two sophomores recently proved themselves to be among the nation’s top students in math and physics.

Celine Liang and Sean Shi excelled in the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (USAJMO) and the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO), respectively; Liang was one of the 11 winners of the USAJMO and Shi achieved a high score in the USAMO.

Along with around 60 other students nationwide, they have been invited to attend the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Program (MOP) this summer, from which the six members of the USA International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) team will be selected and trained.

In addition to her successes in the Math Olympiad, Liang won a Gold Medal in the U.S. Physics Olympiad (USAPhO) and will be attending the U.S. Physics Team Training Camp from this summer. Students at the camp engage in intense studying, testing and problem solving. At the end of the camp, five students will be chosen to represent the United States Physics Team at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Astana, Kazakhstan from July 13-21.

“I definitely didn't expect [these results], and I feel really lucky to be able to attend [the two] camps,” Liang said. “I'm really looking forward to learning a lot this summer.”
