Top 5 things to do with an extra 20 minutes in the morning

Advice on how to spend those early mornings

1. Dress for success.

Every school year, I tell myself I’m going to dress nicely — a romper the first day, a dress the next. But by the second week of school, I’m rolling out of my bed, throwing on a T-shirt and athletic shorts and calling it an outfit. Maybe with 20 more minutes, I can make myself look a little more chic and a little less shabby.

2. Take last-minute studying to the next level.

I just know I’m going to have a test or quiz every other day of junior year. I must cherish every free minute I have, which means using the extra 20 minutes to frantically read “The Crucible” or look (and cry) over my APUSH Cornell notes.

3. Perfect morning makeup.

Before I got my driver’s license, my mom would drive me to school every day, which would give me five minutes to draw on my brows, put on some mascara and brush my hair. But I guess I gave up my daily beauty routine in the backseat of my mom’s car for independence. So now, before I leave the house, I’ll take five out of my extra 20 minutes to put on some makeup and make sure I look on fleek.

4. No more L’Eggo my Eggo?

Since my elementary school days, I’ve lived off of Eggo’s frozen pancakes and waffles, simply because they only take one minute and 15 seconds to microwave. Unfortunately, three pancakes usually only last me one period, and by break time, I’m starving as I wait in line to buy cookies. With an extra 20 minutes, I can make myself a filling breakfast — perhaps a smoothie or an omelette — to hold me over until lunch, saving me $1.50 and a few calories every day.

5. Zzz…

Forget it. I’m just going to sleep in.
